Men Do Pilates!

Yes they do!  Men make up about 30 percent of Embody Pilates clients.  Most of the men that do Pilates at this studio have come in for injury management or prevention.  They come in for this reason but tend to stay because its exercise unlike anything they have done before.

Pilates is different because of its emphasis on the mechanics of movement.  Which means that a class incorporates stretching and release techniques alongside strengthening areas of weakness.  There is also an attention to posture (or areas of overload) that may also be something a lot of people (men) overlook.

For these reasons our classes attract and help tradies keep up with the physical stressors that their work day places on their body.  The classes help males who are over 50 feel they can use their shoulders again and increase hip flexibility.   They help men do the sporting activity they want to pursue and of course they help stop their wife/partner from nagging at them about the benefits of Pilates ;)!

Common misconceptions that we hear are that Pilates is perceived to be either too easy or too hard.  Too easy because people don't seem to sweat enough and too hard because of that crazy looking equipment.  To help dispel both those myths we can tell you that a Pilates class is pitched to your ability at first and then just beyond your ability to make your body adapt.  You will be able to participate in a class whatever your ability and then gradually improve.  So the reformers can be tamed and if you're the type of guy that needs a challenge then your instructor will very happily make you regret even thinking Pilates may be easy!
